Ways to De-stress

In today’s times, everything is stressful. People often juggle things  way more than they are of accomplishing. I am speaking from experience and by observation. Stress is such a common word, it’s like the norm. People get sick, exhausted and plain drained out of life. It’s like fun, happiness and relaxation is very hard to come by. People relax by sleeping. Sleeping should be a part of your  day to day activity, not  reward. Most people work too much that they forget that their health is declining. What’s the use of working and making money when you’ll be using it in the end paying medical bills. You worked too much it sent you to the hospital.

Priorities, people! There is more to life than enslaving your self with work. The first step to a healthy lifestyle is to remove stress in your system. How do you do that, you ask? Here are a few:

Yoga– Yes, yoga. It’s not just the new health or workout fad. In fact, it’s been around since you and I were born and it works. There are so many friendly-neighborhood yoga studios now. As much as coffee shops actually, like this yoga in Perth. Yoga will help you do the proper breathing to de-stress. Yoga will help you focus also, and that equals to being productive!

Don’t take your work home– Make your time at home for your family or if living alone, for your self.

Worry less– worrying is very counter-productive. If it is something you can solve right there and then, then it is something for later. Learn to focus.

Get enough sleep– I know, too many clubs to hit, so little time… been there, done that. If you can handle it, go right ahead. If not, sleep is as precious as gold.

Eat Well– And by it well, I didn’t mean it to drown sorrows. Eating well means to never skip a meal because there are work to do. There will still be work after you eat. You first before work. I hope I don’t have to stress more importance into this.

5 Steps to a Stress Free Evening

You’ve had a terrible week. The car has broken down, it’s rained every time you’ve tried putting the washing out, and your kids are restless and already tired of the new school term. You need an evening for you. An evening where you can sink away and leave all your troubles behind. Prolonged periods of stress can have extremely negative effects on your health[1]. So periods of relaxation, even short periods, can have extreme benefits.

To ensure maximum relaxation we have put together these Five Steps which will result in a much needed stress free evening!

  1. Turn off mobile devices
It is impossible for us to properly wind down if we are constantly checking our phones and tablets for updates and news on the world. Take a step back from social media for a couple of hours, stop wondering what is happening everywhere else and concentrate on what is happening here and now. It will help you to relax.

  2. Drop the kids off at a friend’s
You could prearrange a group sleepover, with alternating weeks so that each set of parents gets a night off. Or you could call in a favour with the grandparents, as they’ll spoil the kids blind, plus the children will find it fun and exciting, and will love an evening away as much as you will.

  3. Meditate
It might sound cliché, but simply taking ten minutes out to close your eyes and think of nothing while sitting in a dark room can really help. Some calming sound effects from your local psychotherapy store helps set the mood, particularly if you feel uncomfortable in complete silence, and if you live in the middle of a busy city. Scented candles or incense can also soothe your mind, but these are entirely optional.

  4. Take a long bath
A relaxing bath in a stunning bathroom can do wonders. You can bathe with or without candles, and scented oils are recommended, as they also help to moisturize your skin which leaves you feeling refreshed and squeaky clean. Hot tubs are becoming increasingly popular in households now, but if you don’t have one, a bubble bath is just as good. Make sure to also invest in a proper bath pillow to avoid getting a crick in the neck.

  5. Drink lots of fluids

Both during and after your bath, as soaking for so long can reduce the level of water in your body. Plus, a lack of water can lead to dehydration, which leads to headaches and worsens headaches caused by stress. So make sure you keep severely hydrated to avoid troublesome aches and pains. You can always relax with a nice glass of wine in the bath, or if you’re not a drinker of wine, a tantalizing tea or a hot chocolate feels so good after a long bath!

When you’re done you’ll feel that you’re surprisingly refreshed, and you will also sleep better. So why not try these five steps, and see how much better you can feel? Stress is overrated anyway.
